Dermal fillers are used in cosmetic surgery to improve the skin’s appearance and to fill defects in the skin from superficial wrinkles to deeper lines

There are many different types of dermal fillers on the market.

The fillers we use at this centre are made from a natural substance found throughout the human body. One of its functions is to keep the skin moist and elastic. The gel is made from a naturally occurring material, providing cushioning and support within the skin.

It is a important not to take any anti-inflammatories, fish oil, or tablets containing aspirin for a week before treatment, to reduce the chances of bruising.

• A cream may be applied for 30 minutes to numb the area first, although many of today’s fillers contain local anaesthetic
• Local anaesthesia may also be used especially if injecting lips
• The dermal filler is injected directly into the skin using the finest needles
• The procedure takes about half an hour to an hour and is performed in our Aesthetic Surgery Clinic
• You may go home or straight back to work immediately after we have applied some mineral concealer makeup.

Do not use oil based make up or moisturisers for the first 48 hours. Do not touch the area with unwashed hands.

Any redness or crusts should settle in 24 to 48 hours.

Please notify us of any persisting lumpiness, redness or itching to the treated area. Bruising can occur, but will resolve in a few days.

Improvement is immediate although a second top up treatment may be necessary. The effects last around six months, although can last longer depending on area injected and skin type.

A booster or top up treatment is advisable every 6 to 12 months with a dermal filler or anti-wrinkle treatment.
